Get to Know Dr. Braden Giswold
Dr. Giswold says that the best thing about his job is that he gets to work every day with a super fun and close-knit team where everyone is excited about doing their best dentistry, making their patients feel safe and comfortable, and giving everyone (especially those that are nervous or skeptical) an amazing experience. He also really enjoys creating beautiful restorations that are durable, look completely natural, and fit perfectly, whether they’re veneers, dental implants, dental crowns, or fillings. When he hands his patient the mirror at the end of their appointment, and they're amazed at the result and their expectations have been exceeded, that's when he feels most satisfied as a dentist in Langley.
Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?
Dr. Giswold’s great-grandfather was a dentist, and his grandfather was a dentist, and his father was a dentist as well, so he really had no choice (just kidding)! He didn't actually know what he wanted to be growing up, but he noticed that his father was always excited about his job. He was constantly taking classes to learn new things and talking about fun procedures or interesting patients he'd helped.
His mother was a dental hygienist, and his parents worked together in their practice for their whole careers. When Dr. Giswold was finishing college, he knew he wanted to do something that involved working with people and making a difference in their lives that was intellectually stimulating. He considered medicine as well as dentistry, and after interviewing many healthcare professionals, he was convinced that dentistry was for him. He was excited to help people in his home community, work with his hands, always learn, and be able to share his profession with his parents. He joined their practice after dental school and has never looked back.
Where Did You Study Dentistry?
Dr. Giswold was literally exposed to dentistry since he was an infant and began working in his parents’ dental office when he was in middle school, pouring models, filing charts, setting up instrument trays, and cleaning treatment rooms. Before applying to dental school, he returned to work as an assistant for a summer.
After graduating from the University of Washington School of Dentistry, he traveled to Guatemala on a dental mission for a month before returning and beginning his career at Saratoga Dental, working with his dad. Over the next two years, he made sure to learn everything he could from his dad and mom about dentistry, patient care, and running a small business. Eventually, he took over the practice and has been owner since 2012. Throughout his entire career, he has dedicated himself to continuing his education and even received training from the prestigious Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies.
