Advanced Dental Technology – Langley, WA

Dental Technology That Makes a Difference

Dr. Giswold’s favorite thing to do is take old-school customer service (the kind that his dentist great-grandfather and grandfather would have offered) and combine it with cutting-edge technology. The instruments detailed below give the team unprecedented control over the quality of their care, allowing our Langley practice to offer the very best when it comes to diagnostics and personalized results.

Digital Impressions with CEREC

Rather than making a patient bite into a mold filled with messy dental putty to capture an impression of their teeth and bite, we can now just scan them with a small handheld device. This creates a highly detailed digital 3D model of the mouth in a matter of minutes, which then allows the team to use the CEREC system to design and fabricate a patient’s restoration (including crowns, veneers, implant crowns, and more) fully in-house and deliver it the same day. No more annoying temporary crowns!

CT/Cone Beam Scanner

While an X-ray is great for getting a closer look at a small number of teeth, when planning for complex procedures (like dental implants or orthodontics), we need something more. The CT scanner takes multiple images and uses them to generate a 3D map that reveals all of a patient’s dental anatomy in extraordinary detail, including both rows of teeth, both jaws, and even the location of tiny facial nerves (so we can avoid them!). It helps the better personalize treatment and deliver safer and less invasive care.

Soft Tissue Laser

The DenMat Sapphire diode laser sounds like something you’d encounter in sci-fi, but it’s an instrument we use often to aid in tongue and lip tie release, periodontal treatment, and peri-implant treatment. The use of a laser allows less invasive treatment compared to alternative instruments like scalpels.

Myotronics K7 Diagnostic System & J5 TENS for Muscle Relaxation

While the “Myotronics K7 Diagnostic System” is certainly a mouthful, what it does is relatively simple (in concept). It allows us to monitor the activity of your jaw muscles with a high level of precision and determine the most comfortable and functional position of your bite, two essential pieces of information when it comes to diagnosing the source of and treating TMJ problems.

While the K7 allows us to come up with a long-term solution, the J5 TENS machine is able to deliver fast relief by relaxing overworked jaw muscles using gentle electronic stimulation. It increases circulation, reduces inflammation, and helps stop pain without the need for medication.
